Skin needling is a controlled collagen-stimulating treatment that uses a precision device to create tiny micro-channels in the skin.
This triggers the skin's natural renewal response, encouraging new collagen and elastin while improving the overall quality and texture of the skin.
It can help soften fine lines, refine pores, improve uneven texture and support the appearance of acne scarring and other superficial scars.
This is a treatment I have worked with from its very early days.
I look at skin needling as a collagen treatment rather than simply a needling treatment. The aim isn't to damage the skin, it's to create a controlled stimulus that encourages your own skin to strengthen and renew itself.
The treatment can be customised to the condition of your skin and the result we're trying to achieve, making it suitable for everything from a gentle skin refresh through to more targeted collagen induction.
It can be a great option for anyone wanting to improve their skin quality without laser resurfacing.
It is particularly suited to people who are noticing early ageing, uneven texture, enlarged pores or scarring, or simply want to strengthen and refine their skin over time.
I've had many years to learn that the device is only one part of the treatment. Knowing how, where and when to use it is what matters.
It can also be used on areas beyond the face, including the neck, décolletage and body, depending on the condition of the skin and what we're trying to achieve.
I also prefer to treat the face and neck together, because it makes sense to keep the result balanced rather than having a beautifully treated face and then stopping at the jawline.
You're also welcome to treat the chest, particularly if you're concerned about sleep lines or sun damage. Some people also love having the backs of their hands treated. There are other modalities that I think can do a better job for the hands, depending on what we're trying to achieve, but skin needling is certainly an option.
Skin needling isn't suitable when the skin is actively inflamed, compromised or unable to heal properly.
Please tell me about anything your doctor has prescribed for you, including any skin treatments, before we start.
It may also not be the right treatment if you're looking for an immediate, dramatic change.
A consultation allows me to assess your skin properly and determine whether skin needling is the right tool for what you want to achieve, or whether another treatment would be more appropriate.
Skin needling is performed using a precision microneedling device, designed to create controlled micro-channels in the skin to stimulate the natural production of collagen and elastin.
The depth and intensity are adjusted according to the area being treated, the condition of the skin and the result we are looking to achieve.
Your skin may look and feel like a mild sunburn after treatment. It is normal to experience:
Skin needling works by stimulating your own collagen, so results develop progressively rather than appearing overnight.
The treatment stimulates a biological process that continues for weeks and months, so be patient, your skin is still working.
$350 to $800, area dependent

The one thing I wish people understood before booking skin needling is that the best results come from a course of treatments rather than a single session.
This is a collagen-induction treatment, so the skin needs time between treatments to settle, remodel and produce new collagen.
The treatment is simple. The results come from consistency, correct technique and giving your skin the time it needs to respond.
For the face, most people will do around three treatments, usually spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart, which gives the skin time to settle and begin producing new collagen between treatments.
The exact number of treatments will depend on your skin and what we're treating.
Skin needling and laser are completely different technologies, so I wouldn't really compare them as though one is simply a replacement for the other.
Skin needling uses controlled micro-needling to create tiny channels in the skin and stimulate your natural collagen and elastin production. Laser uses light energy to target specific structures within the skin.
Both have their place. The right option depends on your skin, what we're treating and the result we're trying to achieve.
Results vary from person to person.
This treatment on its own is lovely. And when I bought my CO2 laser, this treatment took a back seat to the CO2 laser. Then comes the stacking of the CO2 and IPL / Photorejuvenation. Together they "both scratch each other's backs." With so many options, be sure to ask me if one's right for you on your next appointment.
