The treatment

What is Collagen Restoration and what is it used for?

The aim is to stimulate your own skin to produce more collagen and elastin, helping to improve firmness, texture, fine lines, tone and overall skin quality.

It can help with fine lines, early laxity, crepey or thinning skin, uneven texture, enlarged pores and that general loss of firmness that happens as we get older.

What I love about it is that we're not trying to artificially fill or change your face. We're encouraging your own skin to renew, strengthen and rebuild itself.

It's a progressive treatment, so the result develops beautifully over time as your new collagen is produced.

Is it for you

Who is Collagen Restoration right for?

It's particularly lovely for someone who feels that their skin is starting to look a little less firm, less plump or not quite as fresh as it used to, but who doesn't necessarily want to change the shape or structure of their face.

It's also a beautiful option if you've already done your superficial skin work, perhaps your pigmentation and vascular irregularities have been treated, and now you want to take the next step and work on firmness, texture and deeper skin quality.

Before you book

Who is not suitable for Collagen Restoration?

I won't treat you if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, have epilepsy, or are taking medication that makes your skin particularly sensitive to light, where that applies to the technology I'm using.

I'll also ask you to wait if your skin is sunburned, recently tanned, irritated, inflamed, broken or still healing from another treatment. If you've had injectables within the previous two weeks, I'll also ask you to allow those treatments to settle before we begin.

It's important to understand that Collagen Restoration is not intended to produce the same results as some of my more corrective or intensive treatments. It won't remove significant scarring or acne scarring, it isn't a substitute for a facelift when there is substantial laxity or structural change, and it is not a pigmentation-removal treatment. If one of those is your primary concern, I may recommend that we address it with another treatment first, or create a combination treatment plan that makes more sense for your skin.

If that is what you're looking to address, please have a look at the Acne Scar Improvement, Cosmetic Scar Improvement and Pigmentation and Brown Spot Removal pages of my website. I explain those treatments in much more detail there, including the different technologies I use and what you can realistically expect.

Collagen Restoration isn't necessarily the right treatment for everyone, and one of the most important parts of my role is making sure we're completely on the same page before we begin.

I want you to have a really clear understanding of what we're treating, what I believe we can achieve and what you can realistically expect from your investment. I'm very particular about this because I never want you to finish a course of treatments hoping for something different from what we originally discussed.

Collagen Restoration is about creating a fine but noticeable improvement in the quality of your skin. It's the sort of result where you can see and feel that your skin looks firmer, fresher, healthier and more refined. Quite often, people won't know exactly what you've had done, they'll simply tell you that you look rested, fresh or really well.

We can make the decision together, with a clear understanding of the treatment, the investment and the likely result.

Mechanism

How does Collagen Restoration work?

For Collagen Restoration, I have a number of different technologies available to me, and the beauty of this treatment is that I'm not tied to one particular machine. I can choose the modality that makes the most sense for your skin, the area we're treating, your lifestyle, your budget and the result you're hoping to achieve.

The modalities I use include:

Fotona Laser

Fotona 1064 nm

KTP 532 nm

Skin needling, Collagen Induction Therapy

Fractionated CO2 Laser

Although these technologies work in different ways, the modalities I use for Collagen Restoration are selected to create a controlled stimulus within the skin, including carefully controlled thermal stimulation, to encourage your skin's natural collagen production and remodelling process.

Sometimes I want to work with a gentle, longer thermal effect; sometimes I want a more targeted laser treatment; sometimes collagen induction therapy is the better choice; and sometimes combining different modalities gives us a more comprehensive approach.

I'm not interested in choosing a treatment simply because it's the newest machine on the market. I'm looking at your skin and the result we're trying to achieve, and then choosing the technology I believe will give you the most beautiful result while fitting comfortably into your lifestyle and your budget.

That's why I call it Collagen Restoration rather than simply selling you a particular machine.

What to expect

Does Collagen Restoration hurt?

You may feel warmth, gentle heat or a little pressure depending on the treatment we're using, but I'm always working within what is comfortable for you.

I'll explain exactly what I'm using and what you can expect before we start.

What to expect

How many sessions will I need?

As a general guide, 3 to 4 treatments can create a significant improvement in the quality, firmness and overall appearance of your skin. And the lovely part is that your skin continues to remodel and improve after your treatment as new collagen develops.

This is one of those treatments where I don't believe in putting everyone on the same schedule.

I'll look at your skin, what we're trying to achieve and how much collagen restoration you actually need, and then I'll choose the combination and timing that I feel will give you the most beautiful result.

What to expect

How far apart are the sessions?

In general, treatments are usually 2 to 4 weeks apart. I'll decide the timing based on the treatment we're using, how your skin responds and what we're trying to achieve.

The timing depends on which Collagen Restoration modality I've chosen for you, because each technology works a little differently.

I don't want to rush your skin. The whole point of Collagen Restoration is to give your skin the right amount of stimulation, then allow it the time it needs to respond and build new collagen before we treat it again.

So you don't need to worry about working out when to come back, I'll create the treatment schedule for your skin.

What to expect

What is the downtime and recovery like?

The beautiful thing about Collagen Restoration is that most of my treatments have very little downtime.

There are a few modalities that can cause some temporary downtime, usually around 1 to 4 days, depending on the treatment and how your skin responds.

But when I say "downtime," I don't mean you're going to be lying in bed or hiding from the world. You can still go out, go to work and live your life.

It simply means that when you look in the mirror, you'll know you've had something done. Your skin may be a little pink, warm, swollen or slightly rough while it regenerates, and that's actually part of the process.

I think of it as beautiful skin in the making. We've deliberately stimulated your skin to start repairing, renewing and producing new collagen, so for a few days you may see the treatment before you see the result.

And then, as your skin settles, the glow starts to appear. That's the part I love.

Comfort and downtime depend on the method we use. I'll talk you through both at your consultation.

Pricing

How much does Collagen Restoration cost in Double Bay?

Collagen Restoration is tailored to the area we're treating, so the cost can range from approximately $300 to $1,000 per treatment, depending on the treatment area and the combination of modalities I choose for you.

For example:

Eye area: approximately $300 per session

Jawline: approximately $400 per session

Neck: approximately $650 per session

Whole face: approximately $700 per session

Larger areas or combined treatments: up to approximately $1,000 per session

You don't necessarily need to treat your entire face. If your main concern is around your eyes, for example, we can focus specifically on that area rather than having you pay for treatment you don't need.

Your treatment includes a thorough assessment of your skin, discussion of your concerns and goals, selection of the most appropriate technology or combination of modalities, the treatment itself and my personalised aftercare and recommendations.

The exact price will always be discussed with you before we begin, so you know exactly what we're treating, what I'm recommending and what your investment will be.

I want the treatment to make sense for your skin, your lifestyle and your budget, not simply add treatments because we can.

In Kelly's words

The one thing I wish people knew

The one thing I find myself saying over and over again is don't expect Collagen Restoration to change your face, expect it to improve your skin.

The changes can be quite subtle at first, but over time they become noticeable, your skin can look fresher, firmer, smoother and more rested, and you can actually feel the difference when you touch it.

I also want you to understand that more treatment doesn't necessarily mean a better result. My job is to work out how much stimulation your skin actually needs and choose the right technology for you. Sometimes that means one modality, sometimes it means combining several, and sometimes it means taking a gentler approach and allowing your skin to progressively build from there.

And perhaps most importantly, we need to be on the same page about the result before we start.

If what you want is beautifully maintained, firmer, fresher, healthier-looking skin, without changing the way you look, this is where Collagen Restoration can be really lovely.

Questions

The questions I'm asked most

Will I see a difference after one treatment?

Most likely, yes. Your skin will often feel firmer, fresher and more hydrated after your first treatment. However, Collagen Restoration is progressive, so the more noticeable changes develop with consecutive treatments as your skin continues to produce and remodel collagen.

How long will the results last?

You are still ageing, so naturally your skin will continue to change over time. The results can continue developing for weeks and months after your treatment as the collagen remodels. How long you maintain the visible benefits depends on your skin, your age, lifestyle, skincare and how well you look after your skin. I generally recommend maintenance treatments around every 3 to 6 months to keep your skin looking its best.

Can I combine Collagen Restoration with other treatments?

Absolutely. Rather than treating each concern separately, I can sometimes combine different technologies in the one appointment, giving us more options and allowing me to work on your skin in a much more comprehensive way.

Results vary from person to person.
