The treatment

What is CO2 Laser Body Smoothing and what is it used for?

CO2 Laser Body Smoothing uses controlled CO2 laser energy to encourage skin renewal and stimulate new collagen, helping improve the crepiness, texture, laxity and overall quality of the skin.

It can be particularly effective on areas where skin has become thin and crepey, including the décolletage, upper arms, abdomen, thighs, knees and other areas where you want the skin to look smoother, firmer and more refined.

The goal is smoother, firmer, healthier-looking skin with a visible reduction in that crepey, tissue-paper appearance.

It can be used to address:

  • Crepey or finely wrinkled skin
  • Loss of firmness and elasticity
  • Uneven or rough skin texture
  • Sun-damaged, weathered skin
  • Fine lines
  • Selected scars, including surgical scars
  • Stretch marks and areas of uneven skin quality
Is it for you

Who is CO2 Laser Body Smoothing right for?

It is suited to anyone who is noticing changes in the quality of their body skin and wants to improve the skin itself, rather than change the shape or volume of the body.

It can be particularly useful after weight loss, or with age-related changes in skin texture.

As with any resurfacing treatment, a consultation is important to determine whether CO2 is appropriate for you and what level of treatment is required.

Before you book

Who is not suitable for CO2 Laser Body Smoothing?

CO2 Laser Body Smoothing isn't suitable for everyone, and timing can be just as important as the treatment itself.

It may not be appropriate if you:

  • Have an active infection, open wound, significant irritation or outbreak in the area being treated
  • Have recently had surgery or another procedure in the treatment area and the skin has not fully healed
  • Have had injectable treatments in the area within the previous 2 weeks
  • Have significant sun exposure or a recent tan in the area
  • Are unable to avoid direct sun exposure during the initial healing period
  • Are unwell or your body is not in a good position to heal

It is also important to understand that this is a skin-quality treatment, not a body-contouring treatment. It can improve the appearance and texture of the skin, but it does not remove excess skin or change the underlying shape of the body.

Mechanism

How does CO2 Laser Body Smoothing work?

The CO2 laser creates controlled micro-treatment zones within the skin, triggering the body's natural repair response and stimulating collagen remodelling. This can lead to skin that feels smoother, firmer and more refined over time.

The treatment is customised to the area and condition of your skin, with the laser settings adjusted according to the result we are looking to achieve.

Curated ampoules can also be incorporated where appropriate, selected according to the needs of your skin, with LED available as an optional add-on to support the skin during recovery.

The focus is always on precision, skin quality and a considered treatment plan, not simply treating every body area in the same way.

The details

How long does a session take?

Depends which body part we are doing. For example, full legs take about 45 minutes.

Back of elbows, 15 minutes.

The details

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the skin we are starting with, because everyone's skin is different. I generally recommend starting with one treatment, then allowing 3 to 4 months for the skin to fully respond and the collagen-remodelling process to develop before deciding whether you need another.

CO2 Laser Body Smoothing is light, targeted and highly precise, so I'm not interested in automatically putting you through a long course of treatments. We treat the skin, give it time to respond, assess the result, and then decide what, if anything, comes next.

The details

What is the downtime and recovery like?

Downtime depends on the area treated and how deeply we treat it. You can expect redness, warmth and a change in skin texture while the skin goes through its renewal process. I'll give you specific aftercare and a realistic recovery timeframe based on your treatment.

On areas below the neck, the skin can continue to feel slightly unusual during recovery, almost as though you have a fine gauze or stocking sitting over the skin. This sensation can last around 3 to 4 weeks.

Importantly, it is not necessarily visible, but you can feel it. The skin may feel slightly tighter, textured or different to the touch as it goes through the healing and remodelling process.

During this period, you are welcome to use nourishing lotions and oils to keep the skin comfortable and well moisturised. I particularly like Dermaviduals body care, and I also have a few specific oils and topical peptide options I can recommend depending on your skin and the area treated.

These can help support hydration, comfort and the overall recovery of the skin while the deeper collagen-remodelling process continues.

Comfort and downtime depend on the method we use. I'll talk you through both at your consultation.

In Kelly's words

The one thing I wish people knew

The one thing I wish people knew before booking is that this is a resurfacing treatment, so your skin needs time to recover and remodel. Normally you will see the true result 3 to 4 months after your last treatment.

It's not a treatment where you walk out and see the finished result immediately. The skin will continue to improve as it heals and new collagen develops. You also need to invest in aftercare products which I will speak to you about.

You also need to plan around your lifestyle, particularly sun exposure, holidays, events and other treatments. I want you to have the time and the right conditions for your skin to recover properly.

The treatment itself is only part of the process. The result comes from the treatment, the healing and the collagen response that follows.

Questions

The questions I'm asked most

When will I see results?

You may notice the skin looking fresher and more refined as it settles, but the real result develops gradually. Collagen remodelling continues for weeks and months after treatment, so this is a treatment where patience pays off.

Can it get rid of loose or crepey skin?

It can significantly improve the quality, texture and appearance of crepey skin and can help stimulate collagen and improve firmness. But it isn't a surgical skin-removal treatment, so it can't remove significant excess skin. The right treatment depends on how much laxity you have and what you're hoping to achieve.

Results vary from person to person.
