MelaJade Aftercare

By Kelly McNamara, cosmetic laser and skin practitioner

There really isn't much you need to do tonight. I've already cleansed and prepared your skin thoroughly in clinic, so when you leave me, your skin is ready to go.

When can I wear makeup, exercise or go in the sun?

After your treatment

The night of

If you're going straight home, go home, relax and go to bed.

You don't need to cleanse again simply because you've had your treatment.

If you're going out

If you're heading to an event or have somewhere to be tonight, you're absolutely fine to apply your makeup straight away.

Enjoy your evening.

When you get home, simply remove your makeup and cleanse gently with your usual gentle cleanser.

No scrubbing, no exfoliating and no need to overthink it.

If you want to use your skincare

You are welcome to use your gentle, familiar skincare tonight.

I don't want you introducing anything new or using anything particularly active just because you've had your treatment.

Dermaviduals

Depending on what I've already recommended for you, some of the gentle options I may have you using include:

Gentle serums

  • Liposome NMF Complex Plus
  • D-Panthenol
  • Vitamin E
  • Vitamin B Liposome Concentrate, where appropriate

Gentle creams

  • DMS Base Cream Classic
  • DMS Base Cream High Classic
  • DMS Base Cream High Classic Plus

SkinCeuticals

If SkinCeuticals is your skincare system, I may have you continue with products such as:

Serums

  • C E Ferulic
  • H.A. Intensifier Multi-Glycan
  • P-TIOX

Cream

  • Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2

But you don't need to use all of these.

I will tell you what I want you using based on your skin and the skincare system we have chosen for you.

Every treatment carries some risk. I go through the risks and the recovery with you at your consultation before we begin.

First 48 hours

Honestly, there isn't much you need to do.

You're welcome to use your favourite skincare, but I would keep things gentle and stay away from anything too strong or active.

I'd also wait a full week before exfoliating.

The beauty of MelaJade is that it gives your skin a gentle, controlled thermal treatment.

The one thing I do want you to be diligent about is sun protection.

I don't ask you to hide away from the sun, but I do ask you to be sensible.

You're investing in your skin, so protect that investment with a good broad-spectrum sunscreen and sensible sun exposure.

Other than that, enjoy your skin, and let it do what I've treated it to do.

Day 3 to 7

Continue with your usual skincare and your sunblock. That's it.

MelaJade is simply an enhancement to your everyday skin routine.

Week 2 to 4

By now, your skin should be looking more plump, toned and refined.

Just continue with your usual skincare and sunblock, nothing more is needed.

Your next MelaJade treatment will be around week 4, depending on what we've decided together.

Long term

Once your skin has completely recovered, I want you back on an active, personalised skincare routine.

Depending on your skin, this may include:

Hydration & barrier support

Dermaviduals DMS Base Cream Classic, DMS Base Cream High Classic, DMS Base Cream High Classic Plus, Liposome NMF Complex Plus, D-Panthenol, Vitamin E and Vitamin B.

Antioxidants & skin quality

SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic.

You do not need everything. I will select what your skin actually needs.

What is normal, and what is not?

Normal

A little warmth, mild redness or sensitivity after treatment. Your skin may also feel slightly different for a day or two.

Not normal

Anything that feels unusually painful, increasingly hot, significantly swollen, or is getting worse rather than settling.

If something doesn't feel right, contact me. I'd rather have a look and reassure you than have you worry at home.

What signs mean I should call you or see a doctor?

Call me straight away if you experience:

  • Severe or increasing pain
  • Significant swelling
  • Blistering or unusual skin changes
  • Heat or redness that is getting worse rather than settling
  • Anything that feels unusual or concerning to you

If you're worried, don't wait, call me.

If you cannot reach me and you are worried, see your GP or go to your nearest emergency department. In an emergency, call 000.
