After your treatment

The night of

If cleansing is needed, use Dermaviduals Total Cleansing Cream with lukewarm water. No rubbing.

Apply ASEA, shake well, allow 10 seconds to dry, followed by Dermaviduals DMS Base Cream High Classic.

Use ASEA only on closed, unbroken skin.

If your skin feels warm or flushed, use a cool, damp towel for a few minutes as needed.

Avoid heat, exercise, alcohol, sun, makeup, acids, exfoliants and active skincare tonight.

Calm, hydrate and leave your skin alone.

First 48 hours

Keep your skincare gentle, calm and simple.

Morning & evening

  • Dermaviduals Total Cleansing Cream
  • ASEA, shake well, allow 10 seconds to dry
  • Dermaviduals DMS Base Cream High Classic

Avoid heat, exercise, alcohol, sun, exfoliation, acids, retinoids and other active skincare.

Once appropriate, use your SPF 50+.

Keep it cool, keep it calm and let your skin do the work.

Day 3 to 7

By now, your skin should be settling nicely. Keep everything gentle and uncomplicated.

Morning & evening

  • Dermaviduals Total Cleansing Cream
  • ASEA, shake well, allow 10 seconds to dry
  • Dermaviduals DMS Base Cream High Classic

If your skin feels dry, Dermaviduals Oleo Gel can be added as needed.

Continue SPF 50+ every morning.

No exfoliating, acids, retinoids or aggressive skincare yet.

You may notice the treated vessels looking darker or scabbed and more pronounced before they fade. This can be completely normal. Don't pick or interfere with them.

Gentle skincare, plenty of protection and let the treatment work.

Week 2 to 4

By now, your skin should be settled and looking clearer. The treated vessels will continue to fade over the coming weeks.

Once your skin is completely back to normal, you can return to your regular skincare routine, gradually reintroducing your usual Vitamin C, pigment-correcting products and exfoliators if these are part of your routine.

I like Dermaviduals DMS Base Cream High Classic or SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2 for ongoing barrier support.

A little note from me…

In my experience, if a vessel is still visible at week 4, it may simply need a little more attention. Some vessels respond beautifully to one treatment, while others need additional treatments until they have faded to the level you're happy with.

Don't be discouraged if they're not completely gone straight away.

We reassess, treat where needed and keep working towards the result you want.

Long term

Once your skin has settled, return to your regular skincare routine and keep your skin well hydrated and protected.

Continue your regular active skincare as tolerated, including Vitamin C, pigment-correcting products and exfoliators where appropriate.

And, as always, SPF 50+ every day.

Look after those vessels

Some facial veins are prone to returning or becoming more noticeable, particularly when there is repeated pressure, heat or flushing.

Try to minimise:

  • Forceful or excessive nose blowing
  • Bearing down or straining, particularly with heavy lifting
  • Excessive heat, saunas and steam
  • Very hot showers
  • Prolonged sun exposure
  • Anything that repeatedly causes intense facial flushing
  • Picking, squeezing or manipulating the treated area

You don't need to live in a bubble. Just be mindful of the things that repeatedly put pressure on your facial vessels.

And remember, treating the visible vessels doesn't necessarily mean they will never return. Your skin and vascular system keep doing what they naturally do, so maintenance treatments may be needed over time.

Protect your skin, keep it calm and we'll treat what needs treating when it needs treating.

What is normal, and what is not?

Normal

Mild redness, warmth, tenderness or slight swelling. Treated vessels may look darker or more noticeable before they fade.

Also normal

A little bruising or temporary flushing, particularly around the treated vessels.

If we're treating a larger vessel, particularly on the nose, you can sometimes get a little bit of purposeful bruising to the skin. This is intentional and usually settles within about nine days.

When in doubt, send me a photo. I'd much rather see it and reassure you than have you sit at home worrying.

What signs mean I should call you or see a doctor?

Not normal

Increasing pain, significant swelling, blistering, skin breakdown, spreading redness or anything that is getting worse rather than better.

If anything seems wrong, please call. You don't need a reason or a list.

If you cannot reach me and you are worried, see your GP or go to your nearest emergency department. In an emergency, call 000.
